Surprising Students with Wallin Scholarship

Federated Insurance | Wallin Education Scholars - 30 years - Where Scholars Rise

Wallin Education Partners, along with representatives from Federated Insurance®, recently surprised three local students from Owatonna High School with news that they had been awarded a Wallin Scholarship. 

Wallin announced its largest class ever, with 361 four-year scholars from 70+ high schools and over $8 million in support. Each scholar will receive up to $16,000 over four years, advising, and access to support. Eighty-eight percent of this year’s class are students of color, 74% are first-generation, and 100% have demonstrated financial need.

“Each student motivates and inspires us. Our scholars are creating a more equitable Minnesota, one that we desire and that they deserve,” said Susan Basil King, EdD, President & CEO of Wallin Education Partners. 

In total, five students from Owatonna High School received the Wallin Scholarship with the support of Federated Insurance.   Federated® recently made a commitment to support 25 scholars – five students for the next five years who will receive a multi-year scholarship to a four year institution.   This investment totals $575,000. 

“We believe in supporting inspiring initiatives that promote equity and reinforce our dedication to youth mentoring that can make a meaningful difference within underrepresented communities,” said Federated Insurance Chairman Jeff Fetters.  “Wallin is an excellent example of an organization that does this work well.”
