Five Owatonna Students Surprised with Wallin Scholarships

Wallin Education Partners, along with representatives from Federated Insurance^®, recently surprised local students from Owatonna High School with news that they had been awarded a Wallin Scholarship. 

In May, Wallin announced its newest class of scholars and celebrated the addition of 323 four-year scholars from 70+ high schools, receiving nearly $7.5 million in support. Each scholar will receive up to $16,000 over four years, along with access to advising, career programming, and additional support. Ninety percent of this year’s class are students of color, 84% are first-generation, and 100% have demonstrated financial need.

During a surprise event at Owatonna High School, the scholarship recipients nominated a staff member who inspired them, in honor of Teacher Appreciation Month. Unexpectedly, in front of Wallin’s camera crews, the students were informed that they were the latest recipients of the Wallin Education Scholarship.

“Each student inspires us to continually strive for excellence and champion their success, as they shape their futures and our community,” said Mohamed Sallam, Ph.D., President & CEO of Wallin Education Partners. 

In total, five students from Owatonna High School received the Wallin Scholarship with the support of Federated Insurance. The students included: Maurice Dut, Faisal Farah, Ruby Garza, Jayden Omangi, and Jose Rosas.

The Wallin Education Scholarship is more than just financial aid. It opens doors for students to access invaluable services such as advising and career programming.
