Westmore Fuel - Fueling Safety with Federated DriveSAFE℠ Telematics

Westmore Fuel makes safe driving a top priority. With a fleet serving residential and commercial clients throughout Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Westchester County, New York, drivers face daily challenges navigating some of the region’s most congested roads. Westmore Fuel Owner Rick Bologna recognized early on that reducing distracted driving was essential to protecting employees and the business.

Turning Safety Into Friendly Competition

Implementing Federated DriveSAFE telematics was a logical next step in the company’s approach to fleet safety. Initially, some drivers hesitated, but Rick led by example and installed the device in his own vehicle first. Soon, the new safety measure turned into a friendly competition. Drivers began competing for the highest safety score, which tracks habits like phone usage, speeding, harsh cornering, hard braking and hard acceleration.

The change was immediate and significant. The program provided tangible feedback, allowing managers to have constructive conversations with employees about their driving habits. “This data-driven coaching has made drivers more aware and accountable,” Rick said. “It gives us the ability to fact-find.”

Protecting Valuable Assets

For Westmore Fuel, Federated DriveSAFE has fostered a culture of safety and helped reduce preventable crashes. It also played a direct role in protecting the company’s most valuable asset: its people. The program demonstrates that prioritizing safe driving protects employees and strengthens the business from the inside out.
