Jeff Fetters is Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federated Insurance Companies, one of the nation’s largest mutual insurance companies, based in Owatonna, Minnesota.

An Indiana native, Fetters is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he earned a degree in accounting.
Jeff began his career with Federated in 1980 as a marketing representative in Valparaiso, Indiana. “I was a customer before I was an employee,” he said. “I worked for a farm equipment dealer that was insured by Federated and I planned to buy that business. Unfortunately, that successful business failed because the owner passed away without a succession plan in place. I joined Federated after that business’s liquidation because of my firsthand knowledge of Federated’s excellent customer service and the integrity and professionalism of its leaders.”

After several highly successful years as a marketing representative, Jeff was asked to lead a district of marketing representatives headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. From there, Jeff’s leadership was expanded to include the responsibilities of opening a region for Federated in Nashville, Tennessee. He was then called upon to lead Federated’s Agency Operations, being appointed Vice President, Marketing Manager–Agency Operations, and moved his family to Phoenix, Arizona. His ascent continued with his appointment to Vice President, Director of Field Operations.
Federated’s Board of Directors appointed Fetters a First Vice President and then Executive Vice President–Insurance Operations in 2001, which resulted in his family moving to Owatonna, Minnesota. In 2004, his responsibilities were again expanded when he was appointed Chief Operating Officer in addition to his duties as Executive Vice President.

Jeff was appointed President of the Federated Insurance Companies in May 2008. His appointment to Chief Executive Officer was effective January 1, 2009. He was elected a Director of the Companies on January 7, 2009.

In 2010, Mr. Fetters guided Federated through its first major acquisition in the Company’s history with the purchase of the renewal rights of a long-time competitor.

Most recently, Mr. Fetters has rallied the organization around a new Mission Statement centering the company on the success of their clients. Investments made in providing industry-leading risk management resources and support have brought this Mission to light. “Keeping the employees of our clients safe is the number one value we bring and our most tangible way of enhancing a client’s success,” Jeff said.

In 2016, he guided the organization through another first—the full acquisition of Granite Re, Inc., a surety company in Oklahoma. This addition will further the company’s value to their niche contractor book of business.

Ever mindful of the key leverage point in corporate success, Mr. Fetters has championed leadership development and performance management, driving results through the major activities of every position, in every function at Federated.

Jeff personifies an unwavering belief that Federated’s Business Plan and distribution system are the finest in the insurance industry today. He recognizes Federated’s greatest strength is its employees and their commitment to vision, integrity and purpose. He takes great pride in the Federated team and their passion to provide optimum value and leadership in insurance protection and risk management for more than 31,000 clients nationwide.

Jeff and his wife Marty proudly lead the Federated Challenge for Kids of Minnesota. The annual event has raised almost $30 million to support the youth mentoring and educational programs of the Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in Minnesota.
