Michael N. Keller, of Owatonna, Minnesota, was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Federated Insurance Companies during a special meeting of the Board of Directors held on May 17, 2018. In addition, Keller was appointed Chief Financial Officer, Secretary and Treasurer.
Keller began his Federated career as Executive Projects Manager on March 3, 2003. He was appointed Vice President in April 2004, First Vice President in April 2005, and Senior Vice President in November 2013, and named Director of Finance. In December 2017, he was appointed Executive Vice President. Mike was instrumental with the acquisition of Granite Re and the expansion into alternative investments including surplus notes and assumed reinsurance. He will be highly focused on utilizing Federated’s capital to best serve operational and client success.
Keller will be responsible for Accounting, Tax, Investments, Facilities, Internal Audit and non-traditional investments. In addition, he will assist the Chairman and CEO on strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and Board-related matters.
Mike Keller is a 1992 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in accounting. Prior to coming to Federated in 2003, Mike was a Senior Vice President at the Ward Group responsible for all benchmarking operations and worked with over 100 insurance company clients throughout North America.

A special meeting of the Federated Board of Directors was called by Chairman Jeff Fetters, resulting from the sudden and unexpected death of Executive Vice President, CFO, Secretary and Treasurer Paul Droher while in London, UK on reinsurance business. “The Federated family grieves the loss of a great man and exceptional contributor. For 46 years, Paul admirably served the organization. He was a great friend, husband, father, and grandfather and a consummate professional. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Droher family,” said Fetters.”
