More Than Just an Insurance Policy

Field services representatives recommend, help implement, and promote safety practices that assist our clients in reducing the likelihood of experiencing a loss. The efforts of our unique team of safety experts, risk management consultants, and risk appraiser specialists impact the well-being and continued success of our clients—and of Federated.

Field Services offers an opportunity for rewarding careers for people who are dedicated to assessing risks and reducing losses.

Risk Appraiser (Premium Auditor)

  • Reviews and verifies policyholder financial records to determine final earned premium
  • Evaluates premises to help determine acceptability and proper coverage
  • Communicates information to underwriters, marketing representatives, and policyholders

Risk Consultant (Loss Control)

  • Helps larger business clients establish and maintain risk management programs
  • Practices advanced loss control/risk management techniques
  • Advises clients on eliminating or minimizing exposure to various hazards
  • Conducts risk surveys to assist underwriters and marketing representatives with evaluating acceptability
  • Directs safety meetings for clients' employees
  • Conducts safety presentations for clients, trade association members, and other groups

Risk appraisers and risk consultants need:

  • Good relationship-building and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • An understanding of detailed technical information for specific industries

Successful field services representatives must be able to assess specific hazards and help business owners take action. Some safety measures are easy to accomplish; others require operational changes. A loss may affect property or people. Helping people prevent or reduce personal injuries is a uniquely satisfying aspect of a career in field services.

Federated offers a combination of classroom and field training for field services representatives.

  • Classroom training covers basic auditing techniques, loss control principles, underwriting concepts, and Federated's unique insurance coverages.
  • Field training involves one-on-one field instruction with an experienced trainer to expand understanding and become competent in applying knowledge and building relationships.

Federated pays exam fees and awards cash bonuses for completion of most insurance-related courses. Federated employees also have Company support for individual self-development activities. See Training/Development to learn more about Federated's extensive training programs.
